Corporate Citizenship

Just some examples of how we are working to make Thunder Bay a better place to live.

BE READY Day
Working with the local Red Cross, Thunder Bay Hydro has entered into a partnership to promote emergency preparedness for all residents.
Seniors Safety

Thunder Bay Hydro has provided funding for the local Alzheimer's Society to conduct home safety presentations for seniors, and the families and caregivers of those with afflicted by various forms of dementia.

Superior Science

Thunder Bay Hydro is a consistent supporter of this summer program for local and area children.  Knowledge of sciences is a key skill for our employees and our future employees.

Winter Warmth
Funds from Thunder Bay Hydro support emergency energy programs for those whose unexpected circumstances make is impossible to pay all their sheltering bills. We also participate in year round Low Income Energy Assistance Programs.

Power Play Thunderwolves

Our Conservation and Demand Management program utilizes the traditional hockey event at our local Lakehead University Thunderwolves games to provide tools for saving energy to the local fans.

Tree Stewardship

Our Tree Trimming program supports the planting of the ‘right tree in the right place’ through the City of Thunder Bay Tree Stewardship Program.

Safety Education

Our support of Saint John’s Ambulance school safety program spreads safety messages throughout our city to school aged children who might not be able to view our Hi Line Hazard program.

College Bursaries

Support for educational bursaries and programs with technical angles ensure that work in the field of electricity distribution is considered by those with a talent in this area.

Minimizing our Carbon Footprint

Because conservation programs are part of our public messaging, we are careful to understand the value of partnerships who have similar goals.  Our sponsorship of the Thunder Bay Public Library Keen on Green campaign provided prizes that will help people learn about and practice energy conservation.

It is important to practice what we preach.  Thunder Bay Hydro staff areas are equipped with both confidential shredding bins and scrap paper bins for recycling.  Brochures and stationary are printed on recycled paper. Food consumption areas provide for pop can recycling.  Many offices have motion sensor switches to light up offices only when they are occupied.

Reaching for Excellence

Thunder Bay Hydro has been recognized for its innovative work in the field of local energy conservation efforts. We were designated the 2008 Energy Star Utility of the Year in the Regional category. A proud signal to our community that we are doing our best and that our compares well within the nation.
