Intelligent Parking Lot Controls

For our commercial customers

  • Do you have a parking lot here in Thunder Bay where staff plug in their vehicles during these cold winter months?
  • Would you be interested in saving between 40% to 65% on electricity for this service to your staff?

Consider installing “intelligent parking lot controllers”.

At current energy prices, it is estimated that you will see a three-year payback time.  After that, each year will add to your bottom line on the investment.

Thunder Bay Hydro has a limited number of $50 per unit subsidies available on a first come first serve basis.

Contact the Frank Oostveen as noted below for more information.

You can purchase a unit that will cycle on and off using intervals that are based on the temperature outside.  Learn more about intelligent parking lot controllers.

  • When it is -25° C, power will be on more than when it is only -5° C.
  • It the temperature rises above freezing, as it is know to do on a sunny February day, the unit will stop providing electricity.
  • Each of these units could save 325 kw/hrs annually.
  • This means that staff will enjoy the reliability of having their block heater used as needed and you won’t pay for electricity that isn’t needed.

For information on this or other commercial conservation and demand management initiatives call Frank Oostveen 343-1022 or .
