Ontario Electricity Support Program

The Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) helps reduce electricity for low-income households with a monthly on-bill credit.  The amount of the credit will depend on how many people live in your house and your combined household income.  

You must apply to receive the credit.  This program is administered by the Ontario Energy Board.

Hydro Extended Late Payment

Thunder Bay Hydro offers a Hydro Extended Late Payment (HELP) plan for seniors  and the disabled. This plan extends the Due Date to  the third working day of the following month in order to coincide with monthly pension cheques.

To apply for this service, we will need to see one of your pension cheque  stubs.

Other Programs may be available if you find yourself in circumstances that make it difficult to pay your electricity bill.

Home Assistance Program

Why does it matter if my home is energy efficient?

An energy-efficient home is a more comfortable home – plus it will use less energy, making it easier for you to manage your energy costs.

Who is eligible for the HOME ASSISTANCE program?

You are eligible for the HOME ASSISTANCE program if you own or are a tenant in residential housing – such as a detached or semi-detached house, a townhouse, a mobile home or a unit in a duplex, triplex or other multi-residential building – provided it is:

  • a maximum of three storeys high, and less than600 square metres (6,400 sq. ft.).

Eligibility also depends on total household income.
